是鬼子母神所持之果物，一切供物果子之中，石榴為上。瞿醯經奉請供養品曰：「其果子中石榴為上，於諸根中毘多羅根為上。」
The pomegranate, symbol of many children because of its seeds; a symbol held in the hand of 鬼子母神 Hariti, the deva-mother of demons, converted by the Buddha.

一石榴 乃鬼子母神所持之果物。一切供物果子之中，石榴為上。瞿醯經奉請供養品（大一八‧七六八下）：「其果子中，石榴為上；於諸根中，毘多羅根為上。」或謂石榴為吉祥果；以石榴一花多果，一房千實（子），因此稱鬼子母為千子（一說五百子，或一萬子）之母，故以之為吉祥果。（參閱「吉祥果」2825）p2700
