為人生原因之行為也。生享尊貴者,施惠普廣,敬禮三寶及長者,忍辱不瞋,柔和謙下,博聞經戒故也。又布施貧窮,持戒不犯十惡,忍辱不亂精進勸化,一心奉孝盡忠,故具大富,長壽,端正,威德。受卑賤之生者,憍慢,剛強,不恪,放逸,不禮事三寶,盜竊以為生活,負債不返納故也。至誠不欺,誦經護戒,使人遠惡就善,不求人之長短,則口氣香潔,身心安樂,為人所稱譽,決不受誹謗。至誠無而欺人,於眾中罵詈說法者,見諸同學輕蔑,不見他事而作過為鬥亂兩舌,則常受誹謗及憎惡,形醜惡而心意不安,常懷恐怖。勇猛,憶念,梵至三勝生於人天。釋氏要覽曰:「人因。(中略)由先造增上下品身語意妙行,故生人道。」

Those in positions of honour have obtained them by former deeds of benevolence, reverence to Buddhas and monks, patience, humility, devotion to the sutras, charity, morality, zeal and exhortation, obedience, loyalty - hence they have obtained affluence, long life, and are held in high regard. Those in mean condition are thus born because of the opposite characteristics in previous incarnation.
