Bhūta，已生之有情名為部多。俱舍論十曰：「又契經說，食有四種，能令部多有情安住。（中略）言部多者，顯已生義。諸趣生已，皆謂已生。」玄應音義二十四曰：「部多，已生義，含多解，故仍置本名。」 以名鬼類之一種。慧苑音義下曰：「部多宮。部多，此云自生。謂此類從父母生者，名夜叉。化生者，名部多也。」
bhūta, 'been, become, produced, formed, being, existing,' etc. (M. W. ); intp. as the consciously existing; the four great elements, earth, fire, wind, water, as apprehended by touch; also a kind of demon produced by metamorphosis. Also, the 真如bhūtatathatā.
已生義含多解故仍置本名
