觀十二因緣覺悟真空之理之教法。三乘之一。
The 'middle conveyance' period, characterized as that of the pratyekabuddha, who is enlightened by the twelvenidānas; it is considered as an advance on the Hīnayāna, cf.śrāvaka, but not yet the standard of the altruisticbodhisattva-vehicle, the Mahāyāna.
一緣覺乘 梵語 pratyekabuddha-yāna。指到達緣覺果之法門，亦即指十二因緣之法。由此義，亦將緣覺之機類直接稱為緣覺乘。又作辟支佛乘、獨覺乘。為二乘之一，三乘之一，五乘之一。即觀察十二因緣之理，以期於一向一果中入於涅槃者。（參閱「二乘」308）p7701
二乘或三乘之一，凡依十二因緣之理而起修和悟道者，總稱為緣覺乘。緣覺乘修十二因緣觀，自凡夫至辟支佛，論時間，速者四生，遲者一百劫，其修行重在悟證，悟所到處，便是證所到處，故無明顯的階位可言。
