又云執金剛夜叉、金剛手、金剛力士。手執金剛杖而護帝釋天宮門之夜叉神也。遇佛出世，即降於閻浮提，衛護世尊，防守道場。俱舍論十一曰：「頌曰：妙高頂八萬三十三天居。四角有四峰。金剛手所住。論曰：山頂四角。各有一峰。其高廣量各有五百。有藥叉神名金剛手。於中止住。守護諸天。」五分律一曰：「諸佛常法有五百金剛神侍衛左右。」智度論三十五曰：「執金剛菩薩，常執金剛衛護菩薩。」又古來於寺門兩脅安金剛力士之像，世稱為二王。見二王條。梵Vajrapāṇi又Vajradhara。
vajrapāṇi,vajradhara. Any deva-holder of thevajra. (1) Indra, who in a former incarnation took an oath to defend Buddhism, was reborn as king of theyakṣas, hence he and hisyakṣas carryvajras. (2) Mañjuśrī as the spiritual reflex of the Dhyāni Buddha Akṣobhya. (3) A popular deity, the terror of all enemies of Buddhist believers, specially worshipped in exorcisms and sorcery by the Yoga school.
