tāishēng · jarayujāḥ
四生之一。如人類在母胎內完具身體而生者,劫初之人,男女未分,皆為化生,其後發婬情而生男女二根,始為胎生也。俱舍論八曰:「有情類生從胎藏是名胎生,如象馬牛豬羊驢等。」 極樂有胎生化生二類,或生邊地,或生蓮內,而花不開,為不能見聞三寶恰如胎生之人在胎內,故名胎生。疑佛之他力而自力修行之人,受此報云。無量壽經下曰:「其胎生者,所處宮殿或百由旬,或五百由旬,各於其中受諸快樂,如忉利天上。(中略)壽五百歲常不見佛,不聞經法,不見菩薩聲聞聖眾。是故於彼國土謂之胎生。」略論曰:「於五百歲中常不見聞三寶,安樂國土謂之邊地,亦曰胎生。」
Uterine birth, womb-born. Before the differentiation of the sexes birth is supposed to have been by transformation. The term is also applied to beings enclosed in unopened lotuses in paradise, who have not had faith in Amitābha but trusted to their own strength to attain salvation; there they remain for proportionate periods, happy, but without the presence of the Buddha, or Bodhisattvas, or the sacred host, and do not hear their teaching. The condition is known as 胎宮, the womb-palace.

如四生中說。 二解 俱舍論八卷十一頁云:云何胎生?謂有情類,生從胎藏,是名胎生。如象馬牛豬羊驢等。 三解 集異門論九卷三頁云:云何胎生?答:若諸有情、從胎而生。謂在胎藏、先為胎藏之所纏裹;後破胎藏、方得出生。此復云何?如象馬駝牛驢羊鹿水牛豬等、及一類龍,一類妙翅。一類鬼,一類人。復有所餘諸有情類、從胎而生。謂在胎藏、先為胎藏之所纏裹;後破胎藏、方出生者;皆名胎生。
四生之一,即由母胎而生,如人類在母胎之內完成身體之後才出生是。劫初的人類,男女未分,所以都是化生,後來因為發生淫情,生出男女二根,才變為胎生。
