Marici，又曰摩梨支，摩利支天，摩利支菩薩，摩利支提婆。譯曰陽燄。以其形相不可見不可取，故名。又曰華鬘。以天女之形相名之，常在日前行，有自在通力之天神也，若念之，則離一切之災厄，特為武土之守護神，密家所傳。此天之印咒，以隱形法為其至極。本行集經三十一曰：「摩梨支，隋云陽燄。」不空譯之摩利支天經曰：「有天名摩利支，有大神通自在之法。常行日前，日不見彼，彼能見日。無人能見，無人能知，無人能害，無人欺誑，無人能縛，無人能債其財物，無人能罰，不畏怨家，能得其便。」天息災譯之大摩利支菩薩經一曰：「摩利支菩薩陀羅尼，能令有情在道路中隱身，非道路中隱身，眾身中隱身，王難時隱身，水火盜賊一切諸難皆能隱身，不令得便。」

A goddess, independent and sovereign, protectress against all violence and peril. 'In Brahmanic mythology, the personification of light, offspring of Brahmā, parent of Sūrya.' 'Among Chinese Buddhists Maritchi is represented as a female with eight arms, two of which are holding aloft emblems of sun and moon, and worshipped as goddess of light and as the guardian of all nations, whom she protects from the fury of war. She is addressed as 天后 queen of heaven, or as 斗姥 lit. mother of the Southern measure (μλρστζSagittarī), and identified with Tchundi' and 'with Mahēśvarī, the wife of Maheśvara, and has therefore the attribute Mātrikā', mother of Buddhas.
