有伏惡之勢，謂之大威。有護善之功，謂之大德。明王中之大威德，菩薩中之大威德，迦樓羅王中之大威德，各以其性德而名之。
Mahātejas. Of awe-inspiring power, or virtue, able to suppress evildoers and protect the good. A king of garuḍas, v. 迦. Title of a 明王 protector of Buddhism styled 大威德者; 大威德尊; 大威德明王; 百光遍照王; there are symbols, spells, esoteric words, sutras, etc., connected with this title.
大威與大德。有伏惡之勢曰大威，有護善之功曰大德。
