辟支迦佛陀之略。
(辟支迦) (辟支佛陀) (辟支迦佛陀) pratyekabuddha, one who seeks enlightenment for himself, defined in theLotus Sūtraas a believer who is diligent and zealous in seeking wisdom, loves loneliness and seclusion, and understands deeply thenidānas. Also called 緣覺; 獨覺; 俱存. It is a stage above theśrāvaka聲聞 and is known as the 中乘 middle vehicle. Tiantai distinguishes 獨覺 as an ascetic in a period without a Buddha, 緣覺 as apratyekabuddha. He attains his enlightenment alone, independently of a teacher, and with the object of attainingnirvāṇaand his own salvation rather than that of others, as is the object of abodhisattva. Cf. 畢.
一辟支佛 梵語 pratyeka-buddha 之音譯。意譯作緣覺、獨覺。又作貝支迦、辟支。為二乘之一，亦為三乘之一。乃指無師而能自覺自悟之聖者。據大智度論卷十八、大乘義章卷十七本載，有二義：(1)出生於無佛之世，當時佛法已滅，但因前世修行之因緣（先世因緣），自以智慧得道。(2)自覺不從他聞，觀悟十二因緣之理而得道。〔瑜伽師地論卷三十四、慧苑音義卷上〕（參閱「緣覺」7699）p7066

辟支迦佛陀的簡稱。
譯曰辟支者緣覺亦曰獨覺
paccekasambuddhaṃ，義譯為「獨一的正覺者；獨覺」，即：沒有老師指導而證得解脫者，且未能為大眾說法者。
