rohati (in Skt. used esp. with neg. , is fruitless ), is valid, is effective : MSV ii.210.5, 10 ; definition of categories of those whose objections to actions (in the saṃgha) are and are not valid, 11 ff.
grows; ascends; heals (a wound)
Rohati: for the Sanskrit rohati of ruh to grow we find the regular Pāli correspondent rūhati: see rūhati 1 . The causative of this verb is ropeti (to make grow): see ropeti 1 — Another root, restricted to the Pāli, is seen in rūhati 2 (with past participle rūḷha) and is equal to rundh (rudh, rumbh) to break. The causative of this root (ropeti 2 ) is either an indirect formation from it or (more likely) a direct representative of rup = lup as in Pāli lumpati. Th the latter belong the preposition compounds oropeti and voropeti.
