prapañcayati ( denom. from prapañca ; Pali papañceti), falsely fancies, imagines : MadhK 448.3, 8 (see prapañca); vikalpo prapañcayaṃ(s), pres. pple. , Bbh 51.7 (see 51.3—5 s.v. prapañca); sa eṣa prapañcyate ( pass. ) kalpe (kalpo?) niḥprapañcās tathāgatā(ḥ) Mmk 164.9 . In Mv ii.221.2 na khu me prapañcayitavyaṃ, Senart ʼs em. , assumed to mean I must not delay ; this mg. of this verb is said to occur in Pali ; but the Mv mss. read prapadyetavyaṃ; curiously, PTSD proposes to derive papañceti from papajjate = prapadyate, but this is impossible on both formal and semantic grounds. I have no very good suggestion for the Mv passage; perh. I must certainly not rely on, be a burden to (my blind old parents).
