gItA [ gE karmaRi kta ] A name given to certain sacred writings in verse (often in the form of a dialogue) which are devoted to the exposition of particular religious and theosophical doctrines; e. g. SivagItA , rAmagItA, BagavadgItA . But the name appears to be especially confined tothe last, the Bhagavadgītā; gItAsugItA kartavyA kimanyEH SAstravistarEH . yA svayaM padmanABasya muKapadmAdviniHsftA .. quoted by Śrīdharasvāmin.
