"with the help of thongs") = S V 153 (Text reads vedha°), and Thag 143 (°missena, translated "violence") may with Kern, Toev. sub voce be taken as veggha = viggha (Sanskrit vighna), i.e. obstacle, hindrance; cf. uparundhati Thag 143.
