Upekkhā and Upekhā (feminine) [from upa + īkṣ, cf. BHS upekṣā Divy 483; Jm 211. On spelling upekhā for upekkhā see Müller P.Gram. 16] — "looking on", hedonic neutrality or indifference, zero point between joy and sorrow ( Cpd. 66); disinterestedness, neutral feeling, equanimity. Sometimes equivalent to adukkha-m-asukha-vedanā "feeling which is neither pain nor pleasure". See detailed discussion of term at Cpd. 229-232, and cf.
