Tiriyaṃ (adverb) [Vedic tiryañc (tiryak) to tiras, see tiro and cf. perhaps German quer = English thwart, all to °ter in tarati] transversely, obliquely, horizontally (as opposed to uddhaṃ vertically, above, and adho beneath), slanting, across.
