Tippa (adjective) [a variant of tibba = Sanskrit tīvra, presumably from tij (cf. tikhiṇa), but by Buddhaghosa connected with tap (tapati, burn): tippānan ti bahalānaṃ, tāpanavasena vā tippānaṃ Mp II 253 (see M I 526)] piercing, sharp, acute, fierce; always and only with reference to pains, especially pains suffered in Niraya.
