Tāta [Vedic tāta, Greek τάτα and τέττα, Latin tata, German tate, English dad(dy); onomatopoetic] father; usually in vocative singular tāta (and plural tātā) used as term of affectionate, friendly or respectful address to one or more persons, both younger and older than the speaker, superior or inferior.
