an oyster
Sippikā 1 (feminine) [from sippī] a pearl oyster J I 426; II 100 (sippika-sambukaṃ); Vism 362 (in compound) = Vibh-a 68. Sippikā 2 at Thag 49 is difficult to understand. It must mean a kind of bird (°abhiruta), and may be (so Kern) a misread pippikā (cf. Sanskrit pippaka and pippīka). See also Ps.B. page 533.
