<b> <c c="#a00149">Mahājanapadā</c> </b> <br>The books mention the sixteen Mahājanapadas or Great Nations, which existed in the time of the Buddha. <c c="#3b6bd3">AN.i.213</c> <c c="#3b6bd3">AN.iv.252</c> <c c="#3b6bd3">AN.iv.256</c> <c c="#3b6bd3">AN.iv.260</c> They are Kāsī, Kosala, Aṅga, Māgadha, Vajji, Mallā, Cetiya, Vaṃsa, Kuru, Pañcāla, Macchā, Sūrasena, Assaka, Avantī, Gandhāra and Kamboja.
