Gāthā (feminine) [Vedic gāthā, on derivation see gāyate] a verse, stanza, line of poetry, usually referring to an Anuṭṭhubbaṃ or a Tuṭṭhubbaṃ, and called a catuppādā gāthā, a stanza (śloka) of four half-lines A II 178; Ja IV 395.
