<b> <c c="#a00149">Ayujjhā</c> </b> Ayojjhā<br>Two visits of the Buddha to this city are recorded in the Canon; on one occasion he preached the Phena Sutta <c c="#3b6bd3">SN.iii.140ff.</c> and on the other the Dārukkhandha Sutta, although the latter is said in some manuscripts to have taken place in Kosambī. <c c="#3b6bd3">SN.iv.179f.</c> In both these references the city is said to be on the Ganges; the town usually called Ayojjha (Ayodhyā) is, rather, on the Sarayū, adjacent to or an alternative name for Sāketa.
