Abhiṭhāna (neuter) [abhi + ṭhāna, cf. abhitiṭṭhati; literally that which stands out above others] a great or deadly crime. Only at Snp 231 = Khp VI 10 (quoted Kv 109). Six are there mentioned, and are explained (Pj I 189) as "matricide, patricide, killing an Arahant, causing schisms, wounding a Buddha, following other teachers".
