Strictly speaking aBAva is not a separate predicament, like dravya, guRa , but is only a negative arrangement of those predicaments; all nameable things being divided into positive ( BAva ) and negative ( aBAva ), the first division including dravya, guRa, karma, sAmAnya, viSeza and samavAya and the second only one aBAva ; cf. atra saptamasTABAvakaTanAdeva zaRRAM BAvatvaM prAptaM ( pb ) tena BAvatvena pfTagupanyAso na kftaH Muktā. aBAva is defined as BAvaBinno'BAvaH ( pratiyogijYAnADInavizayatvaM ) that whose knowledge is dependent on the knowledge of its pratiyogI .
