彌勒菩薩今在兜率天內院，經當來五十六億七千萬年於此土出世，在華林園中龍華樹下開法會，普度人天，謂之龍華會，中世身化龍身，又入禪定，以待龍華會。荊楚歲時記曰：四月八日，諸寺各設齋，以五香水浴佛，作龍華會，以為彌勒下生之徵。劉禹錫詩曰：「支公去已久，寂寞龍華會。」
