胎藏界觀眾生之肉團心為八葉之蓮華，故謂之身蓮。性靈集八曰：「身蓮等空，二覺寂照，沒駄之號也。」
The lotus in the body, i. e. the heart, or eight-leaved lotus in all beings; it represents also the Garbhadhātu, which is the matrix of the material world out of which all beings come.
