西域記五曰：「昔殑伽河邊有仙人，久入禪定，肩上生大樹，稱曰大樹仙人。見一百美女動心，詣王求之，美女無應者，仙人大瞋，咒王女悉使曲腰。」見曲女城條。
Mahāvṛkṣa ṛṣi, the ascetic Vāyu, who meditated so long that a big tree grew out of his shoulders. Seeing a hundred beautiful princesses he desired them; being spurned, he was filled with hatred, and with a spell turned them into hunchbacks; hence Kanyākubja, v. 羯 or 罽 the city of hump-backed maidens; its king was ?
