Upāli，又作優婆利，鄔波離，優波離，憂波利。譯曰近取，近執。羅漢名。悉達太子執事之人。是本行集經五十三優波離因緣品所說。持律第一之比丘。更有一人，本為尼犍外道之弟子，是中阿含經三十二優婆離經所說。註維摩經三曰：「肇曰：優婆離，秦言上首，弟子中持律第一也。」二十唯識述記下曰：「鄔波離者，此云近執，親近於王，執王事也，如世說言朝延執事。」彌勒上生經疏下曰：「優波離，此云近執，佛為太子，彼為大臣。親近太子，執事之臣，古人云佛家人，非也。」淨名疏五曰：「優波離，此云上首，有翻化生。」
Upāli 優婆利; 優波利 (or 優波離); 鄔波離 A barber of śūdracaste, who became a disciple of Śākyamuni, was one of the threesthaviras of the first Synod, and reputed as the principal compiler of the Vinaya, hence his title 持戒 Keeper of the Laws. There was another Upāli, a Nirgrantha ascetic.
