śuṣka-vartikā , perh. ‘dry wick’ , a form of torture: °kāṃ vā vartyamānasya Śikṣ 182.4 , when he is being turned (whirled) in the ‘dry wick’ (possibly treated as a wick , dipped in burning oil?); acc. to note in Transl. , Tib. skam ( dry? ) rim bya ba lta dril tam , which is not clear to me.
