<b> <c c="#a00149">Āpaṇa</c> </b> <br>A city in the Aṅguttarāpa country, probably its capital. The Buddha once visited the city with 1,250 monks and the whole company was entertained by the Jaṭila Keṇiya. <c c="#3b6bd3">Vin.i.245ff.</c> From Āpaṇa the Buddha went on to Kusinārā. <c c="#3b6bd3">Vin.i.247</c> In the Saṃyutta Nikāya, <c c="#3b6bd3">SN.v.225</c> Āpaṇa is spoken of as a township of the Aṅgas and the Buddha is mentioned as having stayed there with Sāriputta.<br>Several suttas were preached at Āpaṇa, among them the Potaliya Sutta, <c c="#3b6bd3">MN.i.359ff.</c> Laṭukikopama Sutta (to Udāyi), <c c="#3b6bd3">MN.i.447ff.</c> Sela Sutta, <c c="#3b6bd3">MN.ii.146ff.</c> <c c="#3b6bd3">Snp.p.102ff.</c> and the Saddhā or Āpaṇa Sutta. <c c="#3b6bd3">SN.225–227</c> <br> On the occasion of the Buddha’s visit to Āpaṇa, during which he converted Sela and Keṇiya, he seems to have stayed at Āpaṇa for over a week and ordained three hundred monks in the company of Sela. <c c="#3b6bd3">Snp.p.112</c> <br> <br>Location: <iref href="https://www.google.com/maps/search/25.465594,87.132568">25.465594,87.132568</iref> (Precision: 2, Type: town)<br> </deftext>
